Erectile Dysfunction Facts
Medical
surveys conducted so far have shown that ED is anything
but rare. Impotence affects over 10 - 15 % of men worldwide,
that is 30 million individuals in America only. The survey
conducted by the National Ambulatory Medical Care (NAMC)
reveals that 22 out of every 1000 men in the United States
reported ED symptomatology in 1999.
It is
also suspected that the increasing number of patients in
the last decade may be connected on one hand to men's unwillingness
to talk about it in the past, and on the other hand to the
ageing of the so - called. "baby boomer generation".
Reports indicate that every 7 seconds a baby - boomer turns
50 years old.
Moreover, surveys show that 5 % of men in their 40s and
approximately 20 % of men by the age of 65 suffer from chronic,
complete erectile dysfunction, while transient forms of
ED are present among 50 % of men between the ages of 40
and 70.
The likelihood
of erectile dysfunction doesn't increase only with age,
but also with certain habits and diseases smokers, for instance,
have a 50 % higher risk level to experience impotence than
non smokers at the same age. Also, 50 % of men affected
by diabetes report erectile dysfunction within 10 years
of diagnosis. Most cases of ED are related to a physical
cause, whilst only 10 % of impotence cases are reported
to have psychological cause.
Statistics
have also proven that not all physicians are aware of the
treatment options, therefore many patients were treated
inadequately or not treated at all.
However, there are urologists who believe the number of
ED patients will double in the next few years due to the
psychological manipulation used in the publicity of new
ED drugs. Every male can turn into a possible target once
he is aware of the problem.
All in
all, it is important to remember that erectile dysfunction
is not a disease, but rather a condition. Medical help is
vital in indicating the most appropriate form of treatment.
Last but not least, erectile dysfunction is treatable at
all ages.
