Life-style

Physical cause of erectile dysfunction may also be considered a damaging way of life. Stress, financial difficulties, guilt or anxiety alone or associated with alcohol and substance abuse may lead to erectile disturbances and, eventually, impotence.

The key is a different manner of managing one's life, avoiding negative experiences, tiredness and routine.
Firstly, men suffering from erectile dysfunction should quit smoking, which is considered a significant factor contributing to ED. Substances in cigarettes damage brain, spine, nerves, blood flow and hormones, in other words all the systems involved in the erectile process.

Clinical trials proved that quitting smoking in men affected by ED can induce rapid improvements of the erectile dysfunction.

Secondly, controlling diabetes is also important on treating ED. The danger of impotence to which men with diabetes are exposed is high, therefore urologists often recommend diet, exercise and insulin-therapy on a regular basis. Moreover, lowering cholesterol may improve the circulatory system needed for achieving an erection. Diet and exercise, combined with medication if necessary are indicated in this case, too.
