Penis Pumps

Vacuum erection - penis pumps - devices are effective in 75 % of the patients trying to improve their erectile function. The penis pump vacuum device consists of three main elements: a plastic cylinder, a pump and one or more tension rings. The device works by manually creating an erection. Patients must insert the penis into the plastic cylinder, which is pressed against the body to form a seal. The hand or battery operated pump attached to the cylinder is used to create a vacuum. Low air pressure within the cylinder draws blood into the penis and, eventually, provides an erection in 1 to 3 minutes after the vacuum. In order to maintain the erection by reducing blood flow out of the penis, one or more soft rubber O-rings are placed around the base of the penis and left there for 25 to 30 minutes.

Vacuum erection devices may be the correct answer for men who commonly fail with oral medication, but also for those who find other types of therapy painful or complicated. The devices were proved to work best in men who aren't completely impotent, but can achieve partial erections.
However, vacuum erection devices are not the best treatment option for all men affected by ED. The devices should be avoided by ED patients with sickle cell anemia, leukemia or blood clotting problems. It may turn out difficult or painful to use the vacuum therapy for men with Peyronie's disease-curvature of the penis. Not to mention that using a vacuum erection device may be more simple than other therapies, but it also requires some manual dexterity and average hand strength.

Medical reports reveal satisfactory reactions of patients and their partners regarding the effectiveness of the vacuum erection device, but also drawbacks; reducing sexual spontaneity and losing sexual desire as the pump works. Some of the underlined advantages of this therapy are the non-surgical procedure, low costs compared to the long-term usage and the lack of restrictions on buying it.

Among the negative aspects of the devices can be numbered the long period of learning how it works and the reported side-effects. Patients may get reddish pinpoint-size dots on the surface of the penis in case of creating the vacuum too fast. Also bruising may occur when the penis is held under pressure too long. An uncomfortable cold glens may appear as the device and 0-rings reduce circulation of blood.Penis pumps devices are recommended especially to men with a stable relationship because of the sexual spontaneity disturbances and for a short period of time. The device may also cause ejaculation imbalances.
