Sex therapy and erectile dysfunction
Sex
therapy is mainly designated to those having psychogenic
impotence. Sex counselors and psychotherapists can help
men overcome low self-esteem, stress, fear of failure, guilt
or depression by reducing tension in couple-life, improving
sexual communication and agreeing upon realistic expectation
for sexual intercourse. All these elements are psychological
components of the erectile process, therapy improving those
means improving erections.
Secondly,
ex therapy may be associated with medical and/or surgical
treatment for full effectiveness. In therapists' opinion,
men and their partners specifically need to be helped in
adapting to organic/surgical changes affecting their sex-lives
and behavior.
